The report also raised concerns about the local council’s Safety Advisory Group (SAG) potentially being influenced by political objectives.
Councillor Mumtaz Hussain, representing Birmingham’s Aston ward, participated in early SAG deliberations and had lobbied against Israeli fans in prior political activities. She did not recuse herself until midway through the process, highlighting concerns over bias affecting public safety decisions.
The report emphasizes the risks of political influence on safety assessments in sensitive and divisive matters like international sports events.
